Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Some recipes don’t need to be complicated to feel special.

Creamy garlic mashed potatoes are one of those dishes — warm, simple, and quietly comforting. The kind of side dish that finds its way to the center of the table without much thought, yet everyone reaches for it first.

Soft potatoes whipped with butter, roasted garlic, and a splash of cream create a bowl of comfort that pairs perfectly with slow Sunday meals.

Serve them beside a roast, alongside fresh bread, or simply enjoy them on their own.

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the ones that feel most like home.

🧄 Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Fresh parsley (optional garnish)

🥔 Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes

Peel and cut potatoes into even chunks.

2. Boil

Place potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15 minutes, until fork tender.

3. Cook the garlic

While potatoes cook, melt butter in a small saucepan and gently sauté garlic for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

4. Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Mash until smooth.

5. Add cream and butter

Stir in the butter, garlic, and cream until the potatoes become smooth and creamy.

6. Season

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve warm with a little extra butter on top.

There is something about mashed potatoes that feels timeless.

A bowl passed around the table.

Someone always asking for just one more spoonful.

Meals like this aren’t complicated — but they’re the ones that stay with us.
