Some pieces of writing come from a quiet moment in time.

This poem was written years ago for my son Jacob Ryan — during those early days when motherhood was still new, and every little milestone felt like magic.

Looking back now, I realize those moments were shaping a story I didn’t yet understand.

The moment you were given to me
I didn’t know what to expect
“A little me” you say?
What joy I had that day.

You took a while to even speak,
absorbing the world at your feet.
You were so precious, quiet and calm,
holding your little hand in my palm.

You’ve watched the world through innocent eyes,
barely ever sounding cries.
Your heart is gentle like mine,
easily hurt but always refined.

I’ve loved having you by my side.
Our moments together fill my eyes
with tears of joy I can’t explain —
my love for you I can’t restrain.

You’re so creative and smart.
You’ve always had the biggest heart.
You’re still growing and changing,
but I find you simply amazing.

Never stop telling stories.
Never stop being you.

You’re going to change the world in just a few.

I love watching you grow.
This I wanted you to know.

I can’t wait to see the next phase —
in this, I know I’ll be amazed.

Let your creativity soar.
It’s like a world fully stored
with bright ideas just waiting
to change the world and be captivating.

You’ll amaze everyone —
this I know.

You ask how I know?

I’ve been looking through
a mother’s window.

To my precious baby Jake Jake,
I love you always,

Momma

Looking back now, I realize how quickly those early years passed.

At the time, every small moment felt ordinary — the quiet mornings, the little hands reaching for mine, the way he watched the world with such wonder.

But motherhood has a way of turning ordinary moments into the memories we hold onto forever.

And sometimes when I look at him now, I still see the little boy I wrote this poem for — the one who was just beginning to discover the world.
